FAQ - frequently asked questions

1. Is it certain that STOP-PTAK modules do not injure the birds?

They don't hurt them. Steel rods have blunt tips and are flexible, which guarantees that the bird will not be able to land on them and causes only great discomfort in case of direct contact with spikes.

2. Is there anything than must be done during the use of already installed modules?

The only thing that must be done is to remove twigs, leaves and other small things brought by birds (e.g.: with the use of a wire with one crooked end), otherwise spikes may be covered up and the affected section may become ineffective.

3. Is it allowed to wash the installed modules with high-pressure water jet, so called Karcher washer?

Definitely not. In case of modules glued to the surface. As a result they may come unstuck from the base (of course it does not affect the modules themselves but they would have to be glued in place again).

4. How to fix modules to the gutter edge?

They may be glued directly to the gutter if the edge is wide enough. If it is very narrow, additional sheet metal or wire brackets may be used (at least two for each element) to make the edge wider. Another method is to install modules with the use of screws or shear rivets.

5. Are there other methods, besides gluing, for fixing the modules to the surface?

We recommend gluing for speed and easiness of installation and because it does not damage the surface. Other methods are also allowed, such as fixing with rawlplugs, tap bolts, shear rivets and other, but they are not always advisable as they require drilling.

6. Is it possible to use the STOP-PTAK system and ultrasound systems to deter birds at the same time?

It is possible, however we know from experience of our customers that effectiveness of ultrasonic methods is poor - birds tend to get used to such devices very quickly. These systems may be used as a supplementary method, while its better to use the STOP-PTAK system as the primary protection.

7. How do you deliver STOP-PTAK modules to the customer?

The delivery method depends on order volume, distance and expected lead time. In practice the usual methods used by us are: collection by the customer, courier (UPS).

8. Are there any reasons for which the modules should not be used in some places?

The only reason is the possibility that small children may come into contact with the modules, their safety must be ensured e.g. by closing the window permanently. In public places it is important not to put wet clothes on the installed modules for drying (it happens very often!) because the modules may sometimes break off during their removal. Care shall be taken not to install modules in places where raptorial birds are roosting (e.g. kestrels).

9. Is the system equally effective also for birds smaller than pigeons, such as sparrows?

Yes, the manner in which steel rods are bent and their shape makes the STOP-PTAK system effective for a number of bird species, including sparrows.
